Jeanette Fintz is a Brooklyn born abstract painter, art educator and sometime curator and art writer who resides in Hudson NY. Ms Fintz migrated to the Hudson Valley region in the late 1980’s from the artist enclaves of Tribeca and Williamsburg.
"For the past 20 years or more, I've been making paintings employing repetition and counterpoint based on invented systems and patterns created from symmetrical grids. My color has moved from saturated and opaque to transparent and earthy. The most recent work maintains the rhythmic and kinetic energy that attracts me to pattern and geometry yet veers off-symmetry to create a subjective planar environment."

"I like to work in the realm of the slightly out of control, that place where coincidence takes over and new possibilities are shown that are understood by intuition, rather than knowledge. Balancing on the edge of abstraction, I make collages, drawings, sculptures and installations of invented forms and objects. My works resemble vessels, empty husks and architectural remains. They have an air of being incomplete or broken. The work betrays an idea of a plan or logic; screws, strings and mark making are visible, but the whole intent is unclear, as though a foreign force (or time) took control of a perfectly normal matter and changed it beyond recognition. Incompleteness and loss are a main theme in my work and many of my pieces are an attempt to preserve a moment , save it from disappearing, or show an (albeit often erroneous) attempt to restore a brokenness, to make something whole again."
